Cardboard Moving Boxes
While Eco-friendly plastic boxes are great for short-term needs, Cardboard boxes are recommended if you have an out of town move, irregular shaped or large items or if you need boxes for longer-term storage.
Major Move carries all the moving boxes you need and even some you probably won’t. Our boxes are made of tough corrugated cardboard and are rated to an industry standard of 32 ECT (Edge Crush Test) for excellent durability and maximum load strength.
Stress-free moves always begin with getting the right box for the right item. Getting a bunch of boxes the same size will only cover about 50% of your belongings. The other 50% need the right size box and the proper packing or your move will be the horror story we often hear about.
Why You Should Avoid Used Boxes:
While “dumpster-diving” at the local grocery store or “begging for boxes” at work may seem like it will save a few bucks, you have to be aware of the potential risks involved that may end up costing you and your family a whole lot trouble.
Infestation:
Cardboard boxes are constructed with corrugated sheets that are glued together with a cushion in between – called a “flute”. The area in between these sheets is a desired warm place for all sorts of insects to live and breed. The longer the box has been in circulation the greater the likelihood that it will have inhabited some insects.
Spiders & Cockroaches
If your boxes have been laid away in a storage facility or a colder damp environment, then its likely that the boxes have attracted spiders and cockroaches inside the flutes.
Odour
While its great that some grocery stores let you have boxes for free, you have to be aware that cardboard is quite absorbent and that odors and spills from produce will stay in the box and is likely to be transferred to your belongings. How do you really feel about your jeans smelling like rotten apples or seafood.
Strength:
Moving Boxes are designed to withstand the rigors of moving. Moving boxes come in either a single-wall or a double-wall thickness. Most boxes used for moving are a single-wall box and are 32 ECT (Edge Crush Test). Double-wall boxes are commonly used for heavier items like Flat Panel T.V’s or more delicate items.
Used boxes, especially those that have been wet or soiled at any time, will lose their strength. In addition, the constant removal of tape takes away layers of cardboard and together with cuts or perforations significantly weaken the strength of the box. In fact, used boxes may cost you a lot more in tape just to compensate for soft spots or worn out areas.
Consistency
It is unlikely that your “dumpster diving” efforts will serve up a bunch of consistently sized boxes that are the perfect size for your belongings. Packing the truck will become a nightmare as you will spend more time figuring out the “rubik’s cube” of stacking different sized boxes than packing.

Wardrobe Boxes
The easiest way to move your clothing. Made of tough double-walled cardboard, clothes stay right on the hangers from your closet to the metal hanger in the box. When finished, simply take clothing out of the box and back into the closet. Because most of your clothing will not hang to the bottom of the 48″ large wardrobe box, it makes a great space for additional clothing. Simply put other clothing that doesn’t require hangers into a garbage bag and rest it at the bottom of the box. After your move is done, wardrobe boxes make a great place to store seasonal clothing in the basement or garage.

Dish, Glass, China, Chrystal Boxes
Glass & china are, by far, the most common items that get damaged in a move. Our durable, double-walled corrugated cardboard boxes protect against chipping & breakage. The kits also Include foam pouches for individual wrapping and optimal protection. Both box inserts listed below are to be used with a Small All-Purpose Box.
